FAQ de l’offre

What are the main missions and responsibilities of this role?

As a Sustainability Coordinator, your primary mission is to support the circularity team in implementing the brand's 'Leave It Better' strategy. You will own the Circular Bill of Materials (CBAs) process, which involves analyzing product data to identify sustainability gaps and opportunities for improvement. This role ensures that technical gear is designed with its entire lifecycle in mind. Beyond data analysis, you will be responsible for cross-functional facilitation. You will onboard various departments to the circular product program and manage seasonal workshops. You are essentially the technical bridge between sustainability goals and the designers and makers who create the final products. Additionally, you will track excess raw materials and support the development of end-of-life strategies. This includes creating standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintaining auditable documentation to ensure all claims regarding circularity are backed by rigorous, verifiable data.

Key learning opportunities for this job

This position offers a deep dive into technical circularity within the apparel industry. You will learn how to integrate sustainability metrics into complex product creation workflows and gain expertise in Circular Bill of Materials (CBAs) and lifecycle thinking. Exposure to tools like Centric for data automation will enhance your technical skillset at the intersection of fashion and technology. Furthermore, you will gain a high-level understanding of corporate sustainability transformation. Working within the broader Business Enablement organization means you will see how KPIs are set and tracked in a global business context. Interaction with Amer Sports partners will also provide insight into how sustainability scales across a multi-brand corporate portfolio.

How does the ideal candidate look like (experience, skills)?

The ideal candidate holds a degree in sustainability, design, or circularity, complemented by one to two years of professional experience. Since the role is heavily data-driven, proficiency in Microsoft Excel—including building complex sheets and performing quantitative analysis—is a non-negotiable requirement. A background in the apparel industry is highly preferred to understand the nuances of product construction. Soft skills are equally important, as this role requires navigating cross-functional teams. You should be a creative problem solver who can apply design thinking to overcome technical roadblocks. An interest in outdoor activities and a genuine passion for gear will help you align with the company's culture and the performance-driven DNA of the brand.

Advice to stand out and make a successful application

To stand out, your application should demonstrate a clear understanding of circular economy principles specifically applied to textiles and apparel. Avoid generic sustainability statements; instead, highlight your ability to manage data or improve processes. If you have experience with technical design or supply chain waste, be sure to emphasize those concrete examples. In your cover letter, show that you understand the Arc’teryx 'Bird' culture. The company values 'disruptive evolution,' so mentioning how you have solved a complex problem or improved an inefficient process will resonate. Demonstrating an authentic connection to the outdoors and an alignment with the 'Leave It Better' philosophy will showcase your cultural fit.

What aspects of the company's sustainability is this role likely to focus on?

The core focus of this role is circularity and waste reduction. You will spend a significant amount of time on the 'Circular Product Program,' ensuring that products are built to be reused, repaired, or recycled. This involves mapping material flows and identifying where resources can be diverted from landfills back into the production cycle. While circularity is the primary pillar, you will also touch upon climate and worker well-being. As the role evolves, you will contribute to policies across all three of the company's sustainability pillars. Your work in documenting data and creating auditable trails is also vital for the company's transparency and reporting efforts.

What are the main challenges someone in this role might face?

One of the primary challenges will be the technical complexity of apparel sustainability. Closing the gap between a high-performance design and a circular target often involves difficult trade-offs between durability and recyclability. You will need to influence designers and product managers to adopt new standards without compromising gear performance. Additionally, managing cross-functional buy-in can be demanding. Not everyone in the organization will have the same level of sustainability expertise, so you must be patient and effective when training others. Balancing multiple deadlines across different product seasons requires exceptional organizational skills and the ability to handle high-pressure 'stage-gate' periods.

How could a typical day look like for someone in this position?

A typical day might begin with a CBA data review, where you analyze a spreadsheet to see if the next season's models are meeting their circularity targets. You might then transition into a meeting with the design team to discuss specific material substitutions or waste-mapping for excess fabrics left over from previous production runs. In the afternoon, you could be facilitating a workshop for a specific product line, onboarding new team members to circularity tools, or conducting industry benchmarking to see how competitors are handling end-of-life programs. Your day will likely end with documentation tasks, ensuring all data entered into the systems is accurate and ready for potential sustainability audits.

What are the opportunities for professional growth and development in this role?

Being part of the Sustainability Transformation team provides a path toward strategic sustainability management. As you master the circularity workflows, there is potential to take on more significant projects related to climate strategy or social impact. The role's emphasis on automation and technology integration also opens doors to 'Sustainability Tech' or data-management roles within the fashion industry. Arc’teryx culture encourages continuous improvement and professional development. Given the company's growth within the Amer Sports group, high-performing individuals often find opportunities for lateral moves into design, supply chain, or global sustainability leadership. Your exposure to different parts of the business makes you a well-rounded candidate for future senior management positions.

The main stakeholders you might be interacting with

You will regularly interact with Product Design and Development teams to ensure sustainability criteria are integrated into new gear. Your daily reported line is to the Director of Sustainability Transformation, and you will work closely with other specialists within the Sustainability and Business Enablement departments. Externally, you might engage with industry partners and vendors to benchmark best practices or research emerging materials. Internally, you will also collaborate with factory and manufacturing partners to understand how circular processes are implemented on the ground, ensuring that sustainability goals are feasible at the production level.
