When a sustainability reporting vacancy mentions Hong Kong requirements, identify the relevant reporting framework, issuer category, and reporting period before describing what the role must deliver. Publication of a standard and a requirement to use it are separate questions.
Separate standards from the rules applying to an issuer
The HKEX climate-disclosure announcement describes requirements based on IFRS S2 with a phased approach from the 2025 reporting year. It distinguishes issuer categories and implementation arrangements. The HKEX ESG Reporting Code is the place to check the rules applying to a particular issuer.
Do not turn a roadmap, consultation, or accounting-standard publication into a blanket statement that every company must report in the same way from the same date. Establish the applicable rules with the team responsible for legal and reporting decisions.
| Question to clarify | Evidence to request | Why it matters to the job |
|---|---|---|
| Which entity and reporting period are covered? | The agreed reporting scope and applicable rule reference | Defines the work and timetable |
| Which disclosures and implementation arrangements apply? | A reviewed requirements checklist | Helps avoid treating every requirement as identical |
| Who owns the underlying information? | Data-owner and reviewer assignments | Makes collection and checks actionable |
| Who approves judgments and publication? | The review and sign-off process | Separates preparation from final responsibility |
The table is a practical work-planning template, not a determination of an organisation’s legal obligations.
Show the reporting task you can actually perform
A candidate can demonstrate data collection, reconciliation, documentation, or coordination without claiming to decide every regulatory question. Describe the evidence you prepared, the checks you performed, and the limitations you escalated.
For an independent exercise, take a public report and create an evidence register with links to the original disclosures. Label the exercise clearly. Note what you could and could not assess from the public information; do not call it a compliance opinion or an assurance engagement.
The sustainability CV guide shows how to describe a contribution without overstating it. Use the reporting job board to compare actual responsibilities and follow the employer’s application link.
Check the source when preparing for an interview
Save the version and date of any guidance you use. Ask the employer which reporting cycle and standards the team is working with, how requirements are interpreted, and who reviews the work. A recruitment advert may use a broad label while the actual task concerns one part of a reporting process.
Official implementation details can change. Keep the framework, issuer category and reporting period explicit, and consult the applicable rules rather than treating this career guide as legal advice.
