Apave Strengthens Sustainability Efforts with Aktio Acquisition

23 marzo 2025

Risk management services provider Apave Group has officially acquired the French carbon accounting firm, Aktio, as part of its strategy to enhance its capabilities in sustainability and decarbonization. Aktio, founded in 2020 and based in Paris, specializes in climate consulting and develops greenhouse gas accounting and management software solutions. These tools support companies in their pursuit of a low-carbon transition by helping them measure their carbon footprints, set climate targets, implement decarbonization plans, and comply with regulations like the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

Since its inception, Aktio has expanded to include around 40 experts, including climate consultants and web developers, and has assisted approximately 500 organizations in tackling their decarbonization challenges. The co-founders of Aktio, Laurent Barbezieux, Alex Huyn, and Thibault Faninger, emphasized the urgency of democratizing the low-carbon transition as climate change risks escalate. They believe that joining forces with Apave, a recognized leader in environmental consulting and auditing, will significantly accelerate their efforts in training and equipping the next generation of carbon accountants.

The acquisition is seen as a crucial step for Apave in strengthening its ‘Green & Social’ service offerings, which are designed to support clients across various transition plans, including energy and climate advancements. The newly integrated entity, Aktio-Apave, will merge Aktio’s climate expertise with Apave’s existing Climate and Sustainability division.

Philippe Maillard, CEO of Apave Group, remarked on the acquisition, stating that it aligns with the company’s mission to act as a trusted partner in making the world safer and more sustainable. He highlighted Apave’s commitment to further enhancing its support for clients in achieving their sustainable performance objectives across technical, human, environmental, digital, or climate-related challenges.
