FAQ de l’offre

What are the main missions and responsibilities of this role?

The core of this role involves auditing environmental data across the group's diverse publishing houses. You will be responsible for reviewing existing Key Performance Indicators, ensuring the robustness of collected data, and organizing this information to support an accurate carbon footprint calculation. Beyond data entry, you will assist in updating strategic action plans based on your findings. You will play a part in preparing presentations for senior management, helping to translate environmental metrics into clear business insights for the Deputy General Management.

Key learning opportunities for this job

This internship offers deep immersion into the methodology of Bilan Carbone© and industrial energy audits within a complex corporate structure. You will learn how to handle large datasets and ensure data quality standards required for external audits. Furthermore, you will gain exposure to the strategic integration of CSR goals in the publishing industry. You will develop professional communication skills by interacting with various departmental contributors and learning how to present environmental performance to high-level executives.

How does the ideal candidate look like (experience, skills)?

The ideal candidate is currently pursuing a Master 2 in Environmental Economics, Energy, or a related field. Mastery of Excel is non-negotiable, as the role requires advanced data manipulation and spreadsheet management to handle the group's reporting needs. Soft skills are equally important; you should demonstrate high levels of rigor, curiosity, and adaptability. A strong command of the French language and a personal interest in the publishing world or literature are essential to thrive in this specific cultural environment.

Advice to stand out and make a successful application

To stand out, highlight specific experience with environmental data tools or complex Excel projects in your resume. Show that you understand the specific environmental challenges of the physical book supply chain, such as paper sourcing and distribution logistics. In your cover letter, emphasize your ability to be meticulous yet analytical. Since you will be working with a CSR Director, demonstrating that you can bridge the gap between raw numbers and strategic sustainability narratives will give you a significant advantage.

What aspects of the company's sustainability is this role likely to focus on?

The role focuses heavily on carbon accounting and energy efficiency. You will be at the frontline of assessing the group's scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, which is critical for their long-term decarbonization strategy. Your work will also touch upon the circularity of book production indirectly, as analyzing energy and resource data often reveals insights into production waste and logistical inefficiencies within the publishing and distribution sectors.

What are the main challenges someone in this role might face?

One of the main challenges is data fragmentation across 50 different publishing houses. Ensuring consistency and accuracy across various sources requires significant attention to detail and a persistent approach to follow-ups with internal contributors. You might also face the challenge of translating technical data into meaningful action points. Moving from a spreadsheet to a strategic recommendation requires an analytical mindset that considers both environmental impact and business feasibility.

How could a typical day look like for someone in this position?

A typical day might begin with exporting and cleaning datasets from different departments to feed into the carbon footprint model. You would spend time verifying anomalies and contacting internal stakeholders to clarify specific energy consumption figures. In the afternoon, you might meet with the external CSR consultants to review the progress of the audit or work on drafting a summary report for the DGA. The day often ends with updating the tracking sheets for the group's sustainability action plans.

What are the opportunities for professional growth and development in this role?

As an entry-level position within a CSR department of a major group, this role serves as a foundational building block for a career in ESG reporting or environmental consulting. It provides the technical 'hard skills' that are highly sought after in the current job market. Successful interns in this type of environment often gain the visibility needed for future junior analyst roles or sustainability coordinator positions, either within the publishing sector or in other large corporate CSR offices.

The main stakeholders you might be interacting with

You will work very closely with the Group CSR Director, serving as their right-hand person for data-related tasks. You will also collaborate with external environmental consultants who provide specialized tools and methodologies. Internally, you will interact with operational contributors across different entities and potentially the Deputy General Management (DGA) when presenting the results of your analysis and the proposed updates to the environmental strategy.
