Job-FAQs

What are the main missions and responsibilities of this role?

The apprentice will be responsible for coordinating the collection and reliability of GHG emissions data to support the group's decarbonization strategy. This involves working closely with various departments to ensure accurate reporting for the annual CSR report. Beyond technical data, you will play a key role in internal and external engagement. This includes preparing CSR committee meetings, organizing awareness events like Sustainable Development Week, and developing sales materials that help clients understand the environmental impact of their purchases.

Key learning opportunities for this job

This role offers a 360-degree view of corporate sustainability within a large-scale international distributor. You will gain hands-on expertise in carbon footprinting methodologies and the rigor required for non-financial reporting regulations. Additionally, you will learn about the complexities of responsible procurement and labels, such as the RFAR (Responsible Supplier Relations and Purchasing) label. Exposure to ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 certification processes will also build a strong foundation in environmental management systems.

How does the ideal candidate look like (experience, skills)?

The ideal candidate is a Master-level student (Bac+4/5) specializing in CSR or Sustainable Development. Since the role involves significant data manipulation, advanced proficiency in Excel and a natural comfort with numbers are essential for success. Strong communication skills are also required, as you will be writing reports and presenting to various stakeholders. We look for someone proactive, organized, and curious who can bridge the gap between technical carbon data and clear, engaging business communication.

Advice to stand out and make a successful application

To stand out, demonstrate specifically how you have handled complex datasets in previous academic or professional projects. RAJA values operational efficiency, so showing how you can turn data into actionable insights for sales teams will be a significant advantage. Research RAJA's current environmental initiatives, such as their focus on eco-responsible packaging, and mention how your skills can help accelerate these specific goals. A focus on pragmatism and teamwork in your cover letter will align well with the company culture.

What aspects of the company's sustainability is this role likely to focus on?

The sustainability focus is heavily geared toward decarbonization and sustainable supply chains. Given RAJA's position in packaging distribution, carbon footprinting and client sustainability reporting are central to the role. There is also a strong emphasis on governance and ethics, evidenced by the push for the RFAR label and the focus on professional equality and diversity policies within the HR framework.

What are the main challenges someone in this role might face?

One of the primary challenges will be the data collection process across a large organization with multiple entities. Ensuring the consistency and reliability of information coming from different departments requires persistence and attention to detail. Another challenge is the educational aspect of the role: you will need to translate abstract CSR concepts into concrete value propositions for sales teams and customers who may have varying levels of sustainability maturity.

How could a typical day look like for someone in this position?

A typical day might begin with analyzing energy or transport data in Excel to update the carbon balance. You might then switch to a collaborative mode, meeting with the marketing team to refine a CSR brochure for key account clients. Afternoons could be spent preparing presentations for an upcoming CSR committee or coordinating with HR for an internal awareness workshop. The role is a constant balance between analytical desk work and cross-departmental communication.

What are the opportunities for professional growth and development in this role?

As an apprentice in a large European group, you will gain high-level visibility within the sustainability department. Successful completion of this mission could lead to Junior Sustainability Analyst or Consultant positions. The cross-functional nature of the missions allows you to develop a versatile profile, opening doors to careers in either sustainable procurement, corporate reporting, or CSR communication.

The main stakeholders you might be interacting with

You will interact daily with the CSR and Purchasing Departments to drive strategic initiatives. You will also be a key partner for the Sales and Marketing teams, providing them with the ESG data they need to satisfy client demands. Internally, you will engage with all employees during awareness campaigns, and externally, you may support the monitoring of auditors and certification bodies for ISO standards and CSR labels.
