Interface, Inc. is a global commercial flooring company and a recognized leader in sustainable manufacturing. Founded in 1973 by Ray Anderson, who famously transformed the company into a sustainability pioneer after reading Paul Hawken’s The Ecology of Commerce in 1994, Interface has been a benchmark for corporate sustainability for over three decades.
Environmental & Social Responsibility
Interface’s original Mission Zero commitment—to eliminate all negative environmental impact by 2020—was achieved on schedule. The company now operates under its Climate Take Back mission, with the goal of reversing global warming by 2040 by making products that store more carbon than they emit. Their modular carpet tiles already achieve carbon negativity across their full lifecycle.
Interface has achieved carbon neutrality in their manufacturing operations worldwide and sources renewable energy for the majority of their production. They work with communities near nylon fishing nets to recycle ocean-bound plastics into carpet fibers through their Net-Works programme.
